The Belinda Bateman-owned Starry, broke her maiden status in the $35,000 Three-Year-Old Set Weights (900m) event at Newcastle on September 4.

By Exceed And Excel out of Dream Play, the half-sister to VRC Sires Produce winner Zululand, broke well from the gates and positioned up handy along the inside rail at just her third outing.

Under perfect guidance of Kerrin McEvoy, Starry managed to sustain her impressive speed and hold off a fast finishing Adamina.

“The filly raced against much stiffer competition at her two previous outings finishing behind Cristobal and Miss Fabulass, and came off minor placings in two recent trials so it was pleasing to see her get the job done today,” said co-trainer Paul Snowden.

Purchased by James Harron Bloodstock from the draft of Kia Ora Stud for $800,000, the speedy Inglis Easter graduate will continue to progress through the grades.
